Alcohol and Drug Rehab in Mead, Washington

Detoxifying from long-term addiction, be it opioids or alcohol, can be an incredibly daunting journey. At Aliya Health Group treatment facilities, we provide safe and medically assisted detoxification treatment to help you manage withdrawal and embark on your path to recovery. Our comprehensive drug and alcohol detox services are designed to empower you in your pursuit of true freedom from substance use disorder.

Detoxification often poses a significant hurdle in the road to recovery. During this process, as the body eliminates toxic substances, the brain typically reacts by experiencing withdrawal symptoms while readjusting to its normal state without drugs or alcohol. The severity and duration of addiction, as well as the specific substance involved, can contribute to a range of distressing withdrawal symptoms upon ceasing substance use.

Washington Substance Abuse Statistics

Substance abuse, particularly involving opioids, is a major public health concern in Washington state. Some of the most concerning statistics regarding substance abuse in this state include:

Cocaine Addiction in Washington

Approximately three out of four instances of cocaine-related drug poisonings also involved one or more opioids. Furthermore, more than a quarter of cocaine-related deaths also included both an opioid and methamphetamine.

Over the past 18 years, an increasing number of counties have witnessed a surge in cocaine-related fatalities. The counties most heavily affected by drug poisonings involving cocaine are King, Mason, and Pierce Counties, located around the Puget Sound region, along with Franklin County to the east of the mountains. The number of cocaine-related deaths has seen a substantial and alarming rise in recent years. In 2022, the rate of drug poisonings involving cocaine surpassed the peak recorded in 2006.

Meth Addiction in Washington State

Recently, Washington state has seen an increase in methamphetamine-related deaths in most counties. Even small counties like Okanogan and Pacific have transitioned from being well below the state average to significantly exceeding it. Conversely, Snohomish, King, Pierce, and Spokane Counties have experienced a staggering increase in methamphetamine poisoning rates, reaching levels that are seven times or more higher than before.

In terms of drug seizures submitted for testing by law enforcement, methamphetamine has consistently been the most frequently detected substance, accounting for over 60% of drug-related deaths prior to 2021. However, in 2022, it was surpassed by non-heroin opioids, predominantly fentanyl.

While deaths caused by methamphetamine alone have recently decreased, over 60% of drug poisonings associated with methamphetamine also involve one or more opioids. Overall, these findings highlight the urgent need for attention and intervention to address the escalating impact of methamphetamine on Washington state communities.

Opioid Addiction in Washington State

From 2013 to 2019, there was a steady rise in opioid overdose deaths, followed by a sharp acceleration. This increase was primarily driven by deaths related to heroin, and more recently, fentanyl. Following a decrease in deaths related to heroin or commonly prescribed opioids, research indicates that synthetic opioids, specifically fentanyl, account for a larger portion of Washington’s 1,623 opioid overdose deaths in 2021.

Between 2002-2004 and 2020-2022, the opioid overdose death rates in King and Pierce Counties more than quadrupled, while Snohomish County saw a rate increase of over three times and Spokane County’s rate doubled. Notably, some of the highest death rates and most significant increases were observed in rural counties such as Okanogan, Yakima, Clallam, Grays Harbor, and Mason, with a staggering nine-fold increase.

Heroin and Fentanyl Addiction in Washington State

Approximately one-quarter of opioid overdoses involve other synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl. Often combined with other substances, fentanyl proves to be a deadly addition. For instance, alcohol plays a larger role in opioid deaths now compared to commonly prescribed opioids. In fact, over 13% of opioid poisonings involve both alcohol and synthetic opioids.

However, the most common combination (37% of drug poisonings) is synthetic opioids and methamphetamine. Likewise, people who pass away due to synthetic opioids (excluding heroin) are more likely to have depressants and stimulants in their system too. With that being said, around 10% of opioid deaths involve a combination of heroin and methamphetamine.

In the past three years, deaths of Washington residents caused by synthetic opioids, particularly fentanyl, have surpassed those resulting from commonly prescribed opioids and heroin. The distribution of synthetic opioid-related deaths differs from that of heroin, with certain areas in Washington experiencing high numbers in one category and low numbers in the other.

You Are Not Alone

Addiction is an ever-growing problem across the United States. As it stands, opioids account for two-thirds (69%) of drug-related deaths55 people across the nation die each day from an overdose of illicit or prescription opioids.

Unfortunately, Washington State is no different, with more than 68% of drug overdose deaths involving an opioid. Likewise, addiction to drugs and alcohol impacts the lives of Washington resident’s health and well-being in a myriad of ways. The Washington State Department of Health’s 2022 data on the drug overdose burden includes:
