Working with a team of detox therapists in Denver can help make the process easier and more effective for long-term sobriety. Our facility offers a comfortable and safe environment for you to focus solely on your recovery.

Our clinical team consists of experienced and compassionate therapists, doctors, nurses, and support staff who are dedicated to guiding you through every step of your recovery journey. Jenna Richer

Jenna Richer, MSW, LCSW

Executive Director

Jenna Richer received her Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) in 2002 from Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, Massachusetts, and became a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in 2007. A native of Los Angeles, California, Jenna’s clinical experience includes working with individuals experiencing homelessness, severe and persistent mental illness, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Jenna created and managed several intensive, field-based programs providing 24/7 services to these individuals through the LA County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Veterans Administration (VA), using the “Housing First” and harm-reduction models.

After moving to Denver, Colorado in 2015, Jenna brought her experience with, knowledge of, and passion for homelessness, mental health, and addiction to the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), where she worked with the state securing SAMHSA grants for providers of mental health, co-occurring, and housing services.

Before becoming the Executive Director at Footprints to Recovery, Jenna served as the Division Director for Housing and Homelessness programs through Family Tree, working with local officials, city and county leaders, housing developers, and numerous state and county grants to implement Permanent Supportive Housing programs, which included field-based, mental health, and addiction services on site to assist in ending homelessness in Colorado.

Laurie Woodard

Laurie Woodard, MA, LPCC, NCC

Director of Clinical Services

Laurie Woodard has been with Footprints to Recovery since 2019. She oversees all staff at our Colorado location including supervision as well as group scheduling, client concerns, and chart reviews. Laurie earned a master’s in counseling from Regis University. She is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), and a licensed addiction counselor (LAC), and is trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting. Before joining Footprints to Recovery, Laurie worked in supervisory positions with youth and adults struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders.

Laurie got into this work because substance abuse and mental health disorders have been prevalent in her family, and while she wanted to avoid dealing with those hard truths for a while, the experience has allowed her to empathetically help others who are struggling. Laurie says what she finds most rewarding about her work is seeing the growth in others, though they may not be able to see it within themselves right away.

Colorado Substance Abuse Statistics

Colorado, similar to numerous other states, encounters difficulties with substance abuse. Substance abuse is a major factor in various health complications, such as overdose fatalities, liver disease, and mental health disorders. Moreover, it imposes substantial social and economic burdens, affecting families, workplaces, and the criminal justice system.

According to the latest survey, 13.39 percent of Colorado residents stated that they have used illegal drugs within the last month. The national average, on the other hand, stood at 8.82 percent. Another 3.95 percent of Colorado residents reported using illicit drugs other than marijuana during the same period, while the national average was 3.33 percent.

In the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield MSA, 27.4 percent of individuals aged 12 or above engaged in binge alcohol consumption at least once in the past month. This percentage was higher than the national rate of 23.2 percent. In light of these alarming statistics, Footprints to Recovery is dedicated to providing effective addiction treatment services throughout the state of Colorado.

Here are some facts and stats about common substances of abuse that people in Colorado can become addicted to:

Alcohol Addiction in Colorado

According to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics, alcohol abuse causes thousands of deaths in Colorado each year. Of those deaths, more than 67% are male and nearly 3% of the total deaths are under people under the age of 21. Data from the Colorado Department of Human Services shows alcohol is the leading substance leading people to seek help in the state since 2010.

Marijuana Addiction in Colorado

Marijuana has been legal for adult use in Colorado since 2014. As of 2015, Colorado led the nation in youth use of marijuana according to the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. At the time, Colorado youth use was 55% higher than the national average and more than twice that of Utah, the state with the least marijuana use among youth.

Opioid Addiction in Colorado

As of 2020, opioid analgesic overdoses accounted for a greater share of the fatal overdoses than any other drug subset. Fentanyl, however, was the primary driver of this trend. They collectively totaled just shy of 800 fatal overdoses, but only 258 of those were attributable to opioids or combo-meds not including fentanyl. Fentanyl accounted for the other 540.

Heroin Addiction in Colorado

Law enforcement seizures of heroin increased 2,035% from 2011 to 2015. The number of both fatal and non-fatal overdoses attributed to heroin in the state have similarly increased according to a “Heroin in Colorado” preliminary assessment established by an interdisciplinary, public-private task force in 2017. In the last decade, heroin has been such an increasingly severe problem in the state that several agencies and institutions, including the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Colorado Department of Human Services, and others created a Heroin Response Work Group. They’ve branded heroin overdose an emergency.

Everyone’s treatment is different, and people pay for rehab in Colorado in different ways. There’s no set cost for treatment as the options, length of time, and intensity of treatment vary for everyone. Some may choose to pay for their rehab near Denver out of pocket. Others rely on insurance coverage to assume most of the cost. There are also public addiction treatment programs, like non-profits. These provide free or low-cost services if you just can’t afford treatment or don’t have insurance to offset some of the costs.

Does Insurance Cover Rehab in Colorado?

While private pay is an option for rehab in Colorado, many people find their insurance covers at least a portion of their treatment depending on their policies and needs. Most rehab centers in Colorado accept some form of private insurance. Our addiction treatment centers accept various private insurance plans, working with both large and small providers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and United Healthcare.

Can I Go to Rehab in Colorado With No Insurance?

If you’re among the approximately 695,000 people who didn’t have private or public insurance in 2019, then you might be wondering what your options are. For those who don’t have private or state-funded insurance, we will work with you to set up a private payment plan or discuss alternative payment options.

There are state-funded rehabs and free rehabs located in Colorado, and most facilities accept private payments. Payment plans are also available for those who need financial assistance. There are also other different payment options for rehab depending on your circumstances.

Our admissions team is happy to discuss this option with you and create an estimate of costs based on your treatment plan. Please call us now at 888-973-2078 to learn more about your payment options for rehab in Colorado.
